Kemal Ataturk

Did you know that our first president here in Turkey was Mustafa Kemal Ataturk? He took rule on October 29th, 1923, until Ismet Inonu succeeded him on November 10th, 1938. Mr. Ataturk also helped Turkey modernize itself. He thought that if men changed what they wore on their heads, it would change what was inside their heads. Changing the capitol from Istanbul to Ankara was also work of his. Kemal Ataturk also invented a new alphabet based on the Romans’. Soon, he ordered all sources of writing to be written in the new language. Our president invented the thought that men and women should be equal. So then, all girls went to school, women were able to have jobs in businesses and they even had the right to vote! However, our past president was unfortunately a dictator. But all of his ideas were to make our grand country of Turkey a secular country. Our life in Turkey sure has changed since Kemal Ataturk ruled! We all seem like a strong country to each other! With our secular government, we feel we can make the right decisions without fighting with each other. Mr. Ataturk sure did change our life here in Turkey!
